Natural oiled flooring care

Maintaining and caring for natural oiled flooring is essential to ensure its longevity and keep it looking beautiful. Here are some tips for caring for your natural oiled flooring:

  Regular Cleaning:

  • Sweep or vacuum the floor regularly to remove dirt and debris. Use a soft-bristle brush attachment to avoid scratching the surface.
  • Avoid using a beater bar or hard, abrasive brooms, as they can damage the finish.

  Damp Mopping:

  • Use a well-wrung-out mop or microfibre cloth dampened with a mild, pH-balanced hardwood floor cleaner or a specialized oiled wood floor cleaner, products like Osmo wash & care or WOCA soap may be used.
  • Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the specific product you use.

Avoid Excess Water:

  • Do not saturate the floor with water. Water can penetrate the oiled finish and damage the wood.
  • Wipe up spills promptly to prevent moisture from seeping into the wood.

  Regular Re-Oiling:

  • Oiled floors may need periodic re-oiling to maintain their lustre and protection.
  • The frequency of re-oiling depends on the level of foot traffic and wear and tear. This can range from every 6-12 months to a few years.
  • Use a high-quality, recommended wood floor oil that matches the original finish.

  Spot Repairs:

  • For minor scratches or scuffs, you can spot repair the oiled flooring. Apply a small amount of the appropriate wood oil and rub it in with a clean cloth or fine steel wool. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for this process.

  Protect Against Furniture:

  • Use felt pads or furniture gliders under the legs of heavy furniture to prevent scratches and dents.

  Avoid Harsh Chemicals:

  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, ammonia, vinegar, or any harsh chemicals, as they can damage the oiled finish.

  Mats and Rugs:

  • Place doormats at entryways to trap dirt and prevent it from being tracked onto the floor.
  • Use rugs or mats in high-traffic areas to protect the wood flooring.

  Maintain Humidity:

  • Maintain a consistent indoor humidity level to prevent the wood from drying out or expanding, which can lead to cracks or gaps.
  • Use a humidifier in dry climates and a dehumidifier in humid climates as needed.

  Proper Ventilation:

  • Ensure good ventilation to prevent the accumulation of moisture in the room.

Remember that the specific care and maintenance requirements for your natural oiled flooring may vary depending on the manufacturer's recommendations and the type of wood used. Always follow any guidelines provided by the flooring manufacturer to ensure the best care for your particular flooring product.
